Spring is on its way! Of course, winter didn't really offer up much this year, really. We had about a month of cold weather and everything else was pretty mild. Still, after last year, I can't complain! Last week, we spotted a lone cherry tree blooming in Greenwood Cemetery on our way back home and decided we should head to the Brooklyn Botanic Garden and see the first blooms there. So this weekend, we walked there - about 7-8 miles of walking and $10 saved in subway fare! We've actually been to the garden a lot this winter - I think the whole time we were members in the past, we only visited once in the winter. So it's been nice to see it in all four seasons!

Even though it's still mostly browns and grays out there, if you look closely it's getting colorful!

We weren't the only garden visitors interested in the early cherry tree! Everyone was lining up to take photos in front of it. My favorite cherry trees, with the big, puffy flowers that form a pink canopy overhead (called 'kanzan') probably won't bloom for another month or more, but the first few are exciting too!

After we decided we'd been in enough backgrounds of cherry portraits, we went over to the magnolia plaza, which is also just starting to bloom!

After that, we realized we were freezing so we warmed up in the greenhouse for a little while before we made our way home (and got coffee on the way, since we still weren't warm enough!)

There will definitely be more cherry blossom photos to come! And more photos in general...I realized the other day what terrible photos my phone takes, compared to my digital camera, and have resolved to carry my camera with me more often. A DSLR is on my wishlist, though!
Oh, and - - - happy spring to everyone!
Beautiful Colors!
