After our Hoh River trip, we headed back to the cabin - but we weren't quite ready to settle in for the night. We were greeted back at the reservation by one of the cute local dogs and a crow...not in any hurry to get out of the road, but thoughtfully using the crosswalk. We decided to stop at Second Beach on the way back. Our cabin was nearly right on First Beach, but Second Beach required a (short) hike through the forest.

Our hiking book said it was one of the best beaches in Washington, and we weren't disappointed. I decided that it's in my top five beaches of all time...maybe even number one? It feels like you're out in the wilderness, because of the huge driftwood and the dense forest that comes right up to the sand, and because there aren't any condos or roads built along the shore. It has nice sand, crazy offshore islands, and pretty sunsets. Basically everything you could want in a beach! Plus, you can camp right on it - we saw multiple groups setting up tents and hammocks and building fires. The hike back up to the car was a bit steep, but we'd do it again for such a nice beach!
