tulum: around town

I know most people who go to Tulum spend most of their time at the beach, but I really liked wandering through the town. It's so different than New York and it has a really unique character. It seems like an interesting mix of normal small town and beach-y tourist destination. Kind of like a Yucatan version of a town on the Oregon coast. A little bit removed from super populated areas, fairly laid back, not glitzy-touristy but still lots of visitors. And the whole atmosphere was just so different! So many contrasts. Brightly colored skies and cement block buildings, dusty unpaved side streets and newly paved roads, palm trees and weeds. And so much cool street art! Murals and graffiti everywhere.

There were always so many people out walking, too...so it wasn't a complete change from New York. Even when we walked home after dinner and drinks, there were a bunch of people out walking and riding bikes. We also had perfect weather every single day of our trip, which made walking around extra nice!
